I knew going into this that this was not going to be an easy read and it wasnt. This is a sad, haunting, heart breaking true story. This whole novel is written centered around one family that lived through the war in Bosnia. I had to remind myself repeatedly that this actually took place in the early 90s, it reads so much like something from the Holocaust at times. I still cant wrap my brain around this whole war. This book helped me to understand it a lot better though. My heart goes out to Mirna and her family and I truly hope that her story is heard by many people.I first came across this book due to the fact that the author claims Angelina Jolies movie, In the Land of Blood and Honey, is a copy of his book.

He currently has a lawsuit against her. I havent seen the movie, but I have read about all the similarities and it seems like too big of a coincidence to me. I mean what are the chances that she would write a screenplay (her first one ever!!!) and have it match up so closely to this novel???Dont let all that deter you from the book though.

This is definitely a book that is worth reading and needs to be read by everyone! These poor people have suffered so much and it broke my heart to read this book, but I feel it is the very least I can do. I couldnt stop what happened to them and I wasnt there to help them, but I believe there is power in the written word and it is so important for their voices to be heard!
